King John was alive from 1167-1212, so around that sort of time I would think - late 12th/ early 13th Century
robin hood was a folk hero long before the Norman Kings.

In general, I think ugly_bob is right: the most common versions of the stories around today link themselves to the time of King Richard I and King John.

As an historical character robin hood appears in Wyntoun's chronicle of scotland (c. 1420) and is referred to as a ballad hero by Bower,Major and Stow. is this any help.could fill up the page, but !!!
