Closer magazine this week - binge drinking article photos

This is a serious and non-moralising question. For those who saw the pictures of the young binge drinkers (performing 'simulated' acts that looked pretty near the, er, knuckle to me) in Magaluf, do you think that something really horrible is going to happen before long? I have no moral axe to grind, but I just thought of the sheer danger these women are putting themselves in, not to mention alcoholic poisoning (15 shots, 10 vodka drinks, 6 bottles of beer, 4 pints of cider, 2 WKDs and 1 Amaretto, apparently...) What do others think? And yes, I did used to get drunk when I was their age - frequently - but not to the point where I could kill myself.

I have known several people who have died through the effects of binge drinking, but isolated deaths are unlikely to deter the culture of binge drinking.
The recent changes to the licencing laws, allowing pubs/clubs to open for longer were supposed to help reduce the incidence of binge drinking, but I haven't seen any reports on its success or otherwise.
Seems to be quite a few factors to overcome;
1.A historical culture of binge drinking
2.Cheap/Free drink promotions by pubs/clubs
3.No history of cafe culture, like our european counterparts
4.British pysche of reserve when approaching the opposite sex.... it seems that only when drunk do the barriers come down.
I think its this last point that's the biggest reason for our style of drinking over here.... and that is why the 18-30 style holidays were/are so popular. Get ******, feel comfortable approaching people, get laid :)

I agree, even last night when i was out at a club there were people everywhere male and female seemingly drinking themselves to oblivion and i dont get it? why destroy your liver and so much of your body, make yourself violently sick and make a complete idiot of yourself, and pay for the privilege? i think its the old "follow the leader" thing, others do it so some have to join in. As for Magaluf and Ibiza and similar places i would not go if i was paid never mind pay to go. x xx

Not overly bothered whether they rot their kidneys or not,what I object to it their drunken behaviour as made most town centres a no-go for families From Thurs to Mon.
Most drinks you mentioned are aimed at getting youngsters into the booze culture with the pop like taste.
Quite often go to Germany and groups of teen/young adults quite often just sit there, talking having a laugh with just a couple or three drinks for ages

i know i saw that article and im only 13 so my mam was a bit like omg but i think one of these days some men will take it to far and people will start to get raped n that n when people start hearing about that they wont want to come to magaluf. So if you have no punters coming to magaluf to buy these shots then theres goin to be no money and with no money well how is any1 goin to survive? So then i bet girls will start prostituting themselves and the whole situation will be splashed across every sunday tabloid.
