For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It was actually a collection of several hoaxes and conspiracies. The next time they show footage of Armstrong skipping along on the surface of the moon, watch carefully the grassy knoll in the background. You might just be able to spot a mafia hitman with a rifle. He's standing next to the grave of piltdown man, while Sirhan Sirhan and James Earl Ray are playing cards at a table. Of course, Lee Harvey Oswald is nowhere to be seen because, as we all agree, he had nothing to do with any conspiracy or hoax.
The web has been responsible for many great things, but one of it's drawbacks is that it allows people to spread their special brand of deluded nonsense around the globe. And the "hoax" moon landing is a prime example.

Think of this! NASA for the past 20 odd years are only capable of going up into space and orbiting for a while, they said they would not be able to go to the Moon for at least another 13 years. Why not?
Apart from the many conpiracy theories and un-answered question here are 3,
1/how did the astronauts climb from the Moon Lander into the module with those 4 huge parachutes in the nose piece?
2/On later missions where did they find room to store the Moon Rover?
3/Also how did they bring back the un-processed photographic film through the radiation belt.
There we are!

thank you all for your answers & input. sorry if by posting in H&M I crossed some imaginary line of 'behavior' rogerr but I hoped to get a wide cross section of ABers. Im amazed Shammydodger at your eyesight - to be able to pick out all that detail is quite incredible. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of this, but having believed it to be true for all these years now I tend to feel like Lonnie - what difference does it make, one way or another it's just the good ol' USA spending an awful lot of money !!!! cheers to all & thanks - S

here is a cut-away of the command module

You will see the combined tunned hatch passes through the forward compartment containing the parachutes.
The Lumar rover folded up and was attached to the lander - here is a picture of that:

The van Allen belts are areas of high particle radiation rather than electromagnetic rays like X-rays - a couple of mm of lead or the equivilent would be sufficient protection. The spacecraft would normally be OK but there was a significant risk of exposure if there had been a big solar flare - This is a much bigger risk to any potential Mars than in a lunar trip of a few days.
