I am half Scots/half English and went up to Glasgow last weekend for a one night stop over and stayed with a relative. We stopped at Gretna on the way back and all the Scottish people we met were lovely to us.I also heard Newcastle,Birmingham and Yorkshire accents while I was up there,so us English obviously enjoy Scotland.I speak with a very broad English accent and have never met with any hostility whilst in Scotland.I won't hesitate to visit Scotland whenever I feel like it and I urge that you do so !!
same here, we went to edinburgh for a week, met lots of local scots in the back street pubs & explained we were from nottingham, they were all great, gave us loads of advice for sightseeing, easiest ways to get around etc, like whitbybabe says reckon it's just an old myth, nicest folk i've ever met, can't wait to go back next year :-)

Interesting topic. I'm a retired sixty-nine year old Yank, and also an avid 'detectorist', who periodically travels to England. Over the years, I've also solicited 'fellow treasure seekers' on several English web sites, in attempts to establish contacts for 'hunts'.
I also suggested mutual hospitality exchanges would be welcome, naively believing perhaps, that my Las Vegas residence would be an attraction of sorts? I never received a response...not one!
Now, I've come to believe that post war prosperity, generational differences, and international politics have perhaps created a growing Anglo-American antipathy.
Am I mistaken?
