And I know all the monarchists say that the Royals bring us valuable tourist revenue, but I believe tourists would still come in droves irrespective of whether the royalty were there or not.

what is the altrnative ? I am a Royalist,I object to all the hangers on,but I love the history & pagentry of Britain, and anybody that has attended trooping of the colour will tell you what a great sense of pride it gives you, and the Revenue they bring in as B00 says is enormous,tourists would still come obviuosly but,the Monarchy is a great tourist attractor, They should pay taxes,and they should pay for the upkeep of all the Royal Palaces.

When you talk about the Royal Family bringing in money through tourism, can you explain how we benefit? Who really gets the money? apart from a handful of hotels, a few souvenir shops etc. 99.9% of other citizens don`t benefit from them. I have nothing against the Queen but I think that after her time is up the monachy should be scrapped.
When people say, " what`s the alternative", why do we have to have an alternative? They have no input or influence in the running of the country so why are they there?

You may not benefit,I do not benefit from the Monarchy,but thousands of people do, the Monarchy is cost effective in that I believe the tourism it attracts outweighs the costs,

Restaurants,Taxis, Theatres, Trains,Buses,Tour operators,Tour buses & guides,the staff that work at the Palaces, Hotels, The Royal estates employ Hundreds of people to Run them.

Having a figure head gives us all a focus,not all want it and maybe one day it will go, but ok you don't benefit, but on the other hand how much is it costing you,for them to be here ?

Other Countries have a Great respect for the Monarchy,surely that must help to bring trade to the uk, I would rather have the monarchy than not,that is all I am saying.

I quite like the Queen. I am not sure how I feel about the rest of the gang though.

The argument about tourism is rather a tired one. People will visit London for it's history and it's landmarks whether we had arroyal family or not. Pagentry and ceremonies could still exist without a royal family as could stately homes, the upkeep of which we pay for. These things exist and continue to draw tourists without royatly in most european cities.
