I hope this doesn't come across as racist but we were talking in work the other day about Asian shopkeepers, post offices etc. Is there anywhere in the UK that has no or hardly any Asians?

They are very industrious - not scared of working etc. It's been said to me that most English shopkepers slam the Closed sign round at 5 and they are home watching TV at 6! Most Asians are still going at 10 and 11 and that's the same with the taxis. Fair play to them - they provide the services that we need and when we want them and I think those are the keys to their success.

The Asians also have a culture of helping each other in their community. The Western culture is very self-centred. If someone doesn't have much money to start a business or buy a house - then tough. Even if their friends and relatives do have some money, they jealously guard it and won't help. Everyone in the West lives an isolated existence of struggle and sink or swim. Many English can live in one place for years and never even know their own neighbours!

The Asians round here all help each other to buy businesses and houses. Not all of them I know, but it is the general rule. If someone wants to start or buy a business or house, then they put their name on a list. Most individuals in the Asian community then contribute part of their income to a pot until there is enough for those on the top of the list to buy their shop/taxi/house etc. Everyone then starts helping the next name at the top of the list.

It's a superb model really. The Asians aren't in this selfish mode of blowing their own money on cars and holidays while other members of the community are struggling.
I'm an English chap but I do respect the Asians when I see how they are prepared to work and help each other. It's a shame we can't do that. So many more people would have a house, hope, and feel part of the community.
Something else - you've got me going now crapmemory!

I used to live in Grimsby in the mid 90s and there weren't any Asians there. It's probably changed now. But I worked as a courier for a while after that driving all over the UK. I didn't visit Northern Ireland but I did visit every other county in the UK. I don't think I visited anywhere where there weren't Asians, probably for the reasons above.

That's it now - I'll let someone else have a go! Andy.
Yes, the countryside. Which is enormous.
Where I grew up, in Sevenoaks in Kent, there was hardly a single member of any ethnic minority. At my school of 850 pupils, there was about five Oriental boys, one Indian boy and no black children. This was less than ten years ago. It is simply a very white, middle class area.
Not any more, it isn't!
Im black and I grew up in Sevenoaks! Just because somewhere is middle class does not mean you wont find any ethnic minorities there. fair enough this is england.. a predominently WHITE country but there are a lot of well to do people of ethnic minorities here also
I have family in Oxshott, which was always thought of as 'middle class white stockbrokers land' and they are also black.
I could'nt agree with you more Andyvon. I've never heard of a lazy Asian plus they're always polite unlike many shop assistants and check out girls+boys who think they're so hard done by having to serve us mere mortals.
We live in Kent, on the coast and we have two local fish and chip shops. One is run by brits and another (two hundred yards down the road) is run by Asians ~ guess which of these two knows my name, my partners name, where we live, where we went on holiday, what we like and dislike, charges less and always has a smile?
Yep it's the asian guy and his wife, and the reason is that they take time to talk to you, listen to what you say and treat you like a friend rather than a customer. The people in the chip shop run by the Brits don't even say hello, thanks or goodbye. The most I've ever heard them say in one go is 'ain't got none done and it's too late to do some now. D'ya want sumfin else' it was the last thing I ever heard then say actually - never been in there since!
