Lights In The Sky

I first noticed this a few years ago, meant to do more research on it but forgot!

On a clear night, if you look up to the stars and adjust your depth of focus (I believe I have excellent eyesight) you can see very small pinpricks of light that move across the night sky. These don't flash, nor are they coloured...they are simply white specks of light. They travel across the sky in what appears to be a perfectly straight line. I have followed one of these small lights for 10 minutes or so as it travels across the sky yet because they are so small, you inevitably lose sight of them.

I'm not trying to make out that they're aliens or anything but there are lots of them, definately visible on clear nights but you have to look hard to see them...almost as if you are looking beyond the stars.

Any ideas what these are?

How many of them? You could be seeing some of the satellites up there.

They're quite abundant...on a clear night you could watch them for hours!

Not sure if they travel in the same direction though, will have to look.

You could try the heavens above website. This gives details of the International Space Station & several other low orbiting satellites.

"Chappers",I have seen these many times.They can sometimes catch you unawares when you're looking skyward.I've also seen some strange white lights,like the ones you described but at a much lower level that seemed to have a ping-pong effect:traversing the sky then meeting with another light and repelling it away.This went on for thirty minutes.Couldn't explain it.My brother saw it too.
After all that,I can't explain what you've witnessed but just thought I'd let you know-you are not alone.

It's quite feasable they could be satellites, I had no idea there were so many! If they are satellites, then they would either appear to be stationary or moving in the same direction is that not so? Next time we get a nice clear night, I'll be checking.

Depends on the orbit path of the satellite in question. I have seen lots of these on clear nights and are definitly satellites (complete machines or even junk left by humans on previous flights.
