Much as I love them, old people shopping in supermarkets at the weekend drive me up the wall - they've had all week - am I an intolerant miserable sod or does it annoy other people as well?

old ladies shopping in squadrons is annoying. but not as bad as small children who clearly need to be spanked or those stupid women who block aisles with badly parked trolleys then winge when you mov them
Question Author
Oh yes, I forgot about the kids - parents (and I'm speaking as a parent) who allow their kids to push the trolleys should be shot. People (and by people I mean women - sorry) who pack their shopping AND THEN spend ages rooting around their cavernous handbags for their purse. Gas/Electricity/double glazing/kitchen/bathroom people who doorstep you going in and out of the shop - if I want a new kitchen I will go to a kitchen shop - I am at a supermarket to buy food etc.. Cretins. Christ, have managed to wind my self up!
the rooting around in the hangbag annoys me too and extends further than the supermarket. people do it all the time on public transport. they get on a bus, ask for a ticket and almost look shocked when the driver asks for some money and spend 10 minutes finding their purse.

but by far the worst is when you try and get in/out of a tube station and you get the people who walk right up to the barrier so no-one else can get through and *then* start looking for their ticket.

am i the only person in london who can find a ticket in my pocket/wallet while walking?

could'nt interest you in wall clading then ?

Folks....May I refer posters in this thread to the "body and soul" section and the question headed "anger".......
Example of a man at the checkout - Packs bag as assistant scans items, gets cash ready as assistant totals up, takes change and puts it in pocket as he walks off. Example of a woman at checkout - Stands waiting while assistant scans items, when assistant has finished, then decides it might be an idea to start packing bags. When Goods are totalled, roots in outside pocket of handbag for chequebook , then inside pocket, then actual bag itself, hands cheque over, then realises assistant needs guarantee card aswell, hunts for that in aforementioned places, when goods are payed for, puts chequebook back in bag, puts card in purse, puts purse in inside pocket of bag and zips up inside pocket, zips up outer zip, loads bags into trolley, and then moves off once queue has extended down the aisles. I always try and find the queue with the most men in it, and yes I am a woman.
yes you are, and extremely discriminatory! I suggest you waken up to the twenty-first century and realise you can shop in 24 hour supermarkets or on the net. Additionally: (1) I know "old people" who have a busier life than me - therefore weekend shopping is a necessity; (2) are you more flush at certain times of the week/ month ... so are old people; (3) some old people depend on others to take them to shops ..... they might have to wait for folk like you who are available at weekend to assist them. Finally: www.tesco.com, www.sainsburys.com, www.iceland.com ...... chill!!!
I agree with Brawburd.. perhaps these old people have to rely on family and friends who work all week and can only take them to the supermarket at weekends. Besides I didn't know we all had to 'speed-shop'... So in answer to your question, that makes you an intolerant miserable sod.
this has turned into another 'have a rant' thread. while i know how much it helps people to get stuff off there chest and have a laugh with the like minded, the bottom line of what you're saying is that you don't understand why other people are different to you. i cant tell you why without exceeding word limits but is a fact of life, like woofgang, i refer you to the 'anger' question.
can anyone tell me is there really a need to rush around on a weekend why doesn't everyone just learn to count to ten and take it easy
I think old people are sweet. They've had long and probably tough lives so they've earned the right to do whatever they please at their own pace.

They're only around in the world for a little longer, so let them be.

andjac- when you work from 6.30am to 10pm every weekday, are planning a wedding at the weekends and still have to do your shopping/laundry/car repairs/cat maintenance all on a saturday then yes, it gets a bit rushy.

Didn't realise there was such strong feeling about this subject - so while we are on it, old people driving. The supermarket thing was just a bit of a joke - but old people behind the wheel do genuniely scare the life out of me - they are an absolute menace - at the very least they should be tested annually after 75 or 80. They have no awareness of other people on the road, often can barely see over the wheel, and their reaction times are appalling - I speak from experience - I have had two accidents in my driving life, both times it was old men who pulled out from a side road into a main road into my path, and amazingly BOTH times they both said they didn't look!!!!!
Heres a list old people and trolleys they park them in middle of the isle then leave them there and wander off.old people who have been married for donkeys years and still dont know what eachother like. drunks doing there shopping they barge you out of the way and then start a fight with a shop asitent when they go down the booze aisle before its open. mums and bums brats who go running off from there parents and wonder why they cant find them supermarkets should provide cuff leadthings that prevent the wandering.that is my vent thankyou i have been dying to unlease it.
I'd love to come back & read some your comments in say 40/50 years time, when you're all much 'slower' in the supermarkets & in general! The next time you're mumbling something horibble under your breath about 'old' people, just remember they didn't choose to become old & doddery - it's just a fact of life. On Sunday, I attended a memorial service & just watching the fragile 'old' soldiers, who fought for us & our country, struggling to lay wreaths of poppies on the Memorial stand, broke my heart. Take a deep breath - it WILL eventually happen to you (unless your impatience & anger cuts short your life!!
Horrible even!

Come on...that's a bit strong - I said in an earlier post it was just a bit of fun, true, but fun - I have grandparents as well, whom i love and respect - one of whom came from the US to fight for us in the battle of britain..........but the fact remains in today's society they can (and anybody who says they have never been annoyed or frustrated is a liar. fact.) be a little annoying. So horrible, no - truthful but love them all the same, yes. So Smudge, sanctimony................very pious trait.
