My daughter and I were talking about those odd little things we do, which give us a tiny bit of pleasure, like stepping onto fresh snow, rolling Swizzles/Parma Violets between thumb and finger, popping bubble wrap, sucking Maltesers very slowly, writing on rubber with a biro, piercing the waxed paper on a new jar of coffee with a spoon, using a squeegie and hearing the dirt going up the vacuum cleaner. A bit of an odd question, I know, but what are your little quirky pleasures?
i like the first time you slip inbetween clean bedclothes, whatever it is that the back of babies necks smell of, being the only person in the library, using clarins foamy face wash, buying chinese silk brocade by the metre and making strangers smile :-)
Rubbing two pieces of silk (some synthetic materials work just as well) between finger and thumb is a kind of childhood "comfort blanket" thing that i never grew out of (33, still doing it).
Plucking - my eyebrows, bf's chest hair and ingrowing hair on his face. I'll pluck anywhere really and it's so satisfying when you pluck out a big juicy root!
Agree with Miss Zippy on eyebrow plucking (yum), also squeezing huge blackheads out of my grandad's nose, looking at the perfection of a sheet of blank white paper - before drawing on it with a sharpened pencil, finding the crunchy ones in a tub of sweet popcorn at the cinema, that overwhelming feeling of happiness that gives you goosebumps when you're with someone you love, the sound of thunder, foamy water from posh hotel taps, the first glimpse of a loved one at an airport.
stroking the downie hair just above where hubby's shave line is, putting on a brand-new sparkling clean white bra and knickers for the first time, swirling my arm around inside a bean bag, kicking through autumn leaves, getting into a warm bed with lovely smooth fragrant clean sheets.
opening a new bottle of tomato ketchup and releasing the vacuum with a pop. dropping ice cubes in water and making them crack. putting a chunky Aero bar on a plate under a desk lamp and watching it while the chocolate melts and the bubbles pop out.
Thank you for all your replies. It's been interesting reading them and has reassured me that those funny little things I like are perfectly normal! Keep 'em coming please. Cheers!
Getting a brand new book first in the library, the smell of a bonfire on a damp autumn day, puppies breath, biting the top off a walnut whip and licking the filling out, that first instant of sliding into a hot bath. The crack of the spine of a brand new book.
puppy's breath? yuk! Now baby's breath - right after a milk feed. Smell of baby's hair after a bath. First squeeze of the toothpaste. Smell of cigar smoke
opening a car door, biro on a rubber(i love that too!), putting on new clothes, that first feeling when you get into a swimming pool, babies head smell, the smell of talcum powder, using new stationary, typing on a keyboard, that feeling you get when you see somebody you know you love but they don't know it, when you get the dirt from underneath you fingernails, and when you open a new book just out of the shop for the 1st time. it has been really good reading these!!!
