How can I trace who own a mobile number which is sending me abusive text messages without them finding out I'm doing it?

ask a friend to call the number from another phone or call yourself from a payphone?
Have you rported it to the police?

No I haven't reported it to the police as I fear this may just agrivate them. They we're texting me about a month ago & me & some friends tried phoning but they did not pick up the phone. Then the texting stopped but this time they have warned me not to text or call them back. I know they live in the same town as me as they have said next time they see me in the town i am going to 'get it!!'
I want to find out who this is without upsetting them more?

and what will you do if you find out who it is? ask them nicely to stop? or take matters further?
I really think that a word with the police or failing that your phone provider is the best route to take.

I'll take it further but I'd rather find out now so I don't have to be scared everytime I drive or walk through my town!
What do you mean when you say contact my phone provider?

Listen to redcrx and go to the police, don't wait around to try to find out who it is.
The police will deal with it, show them the texts and say you are frightened. Do you have an idea who it could be and why? I would say it is very serious if they are telling you not to ring or text the number and then saying you are going to get it next time they see you in town, please just go to the police.

Also just like to add, that if they don't want you to phone or text the number (seeing as how you have tried from various phones before) then it sounds like they have bought the phone or the sim card purposly to intimidate and scare you otherwise how do they know not to answer when you've called from another phone, which is blooming serious! and they damn well deserve a visit from the police.

your phone provider: the people who your phone is with ie: vodaphone, orange, 3 etc.

They will be able to bar the number so you cannot receive texts from this person or they can issue you a new number.

GO TO THE POLICE THEY WILL HELP YOU

You should go to the police and let them sort it out. This person deserves to be caught and at the very least be .heavily fined

Something similar happened to my daughter recently albeit not so sinister because she knew who was texting her. However, she went to the police who treated the matter very seriously and immediately contacted the owner of the mobile. She has had no problems since.
Good luck. Nobody deserves to be threated like this.

I had the same problem, contacted the police and they told me to sort it out with my mobile phone company. They said they could not do anything !! Total waste of time.
