I am a left of centre liberal. Based on this, who do I vote for in England? Who would I vote for in the US preliminaries and also democrat or republican?
There's not a lot of representation for liberal views in British politics at the moment, and if you live in a constituency like the one I do, the chances are that at election time, all you'll have to choose from are representatives of the three main parties, none of which are terribly satisfactory. Perhaps the best move is to become a member of as many different parties as possible and attempt to influence them from within.
Given that party political activity in the US tends to skew to the right, anyone to the left of centre in the UK would be decidedly liberal in the States: this time round, that makes you a booster for Howard Dean, Democrat Presidential hopeful (with little hope of getting the nomination).
Ha good one TW, the premise that the current labour party are in any way liberal or left of centre is a novel idea.....I honestly think you would have to vote socialist to get an old faashioned left wing POV.....in the US I would recommend the Green party as your only option.
I agree with sft42, in the US the Green party is definitely the most left/liberal of the mainstream parties. The Democrats are quite conservative in comparison, and the Republicans are very right wing. In the UK, in the past I would have said Labour for left/liberal people, but sadly New Labour is neither very left nor very liberal unfortunately. If you lived in Scotland then the Scottish Socialist party would probably be the closest; I don't know about England or Wales though.
