Are there any grants for South American students to come to the UK to do a post-grad course, MA type thing? A friend applied recently for the Chevening Scholarship through the British Council and got to the very last stages, but didn't get it because the field she's qualified in (cultural studies and popular culture) doesn't score a high up as other subjects (your more traditional ones, like engineering and architecture). Are there any other places worth trying? She already has 3 offers from different Universities in the UK, she has somewhere to stay and speaks very good English, she just needs some assistance with the fees.

You need to contact your Local Education Authority (LEA) which will be listed in the phone book (under local councils?) - ring directory enquiries they will know. Failing that contact the Citizens Advice Bureau. Grants are very hazy subjects these days but the LEA will know everything you want answers to.
