My CV

Hello all! Hope you all had a nice weekend (shame about the football). Anyway, now most of you are back at work, I am still trying to find a job. I'm sorting out my CV, but I'm finding it difficult to fit everything in. I was wondering, is it bad if I just put 'References on request' rather than detailing my references? Thier addresses take up 7 lines, and I could be using that space to (ahem) 'sell myself'. Are employees suspicious of people who put 'References on request' as though they have something to hide? Anyway, your thoughts, ideas and opinions would be greatly received. XX

I've read that you shouldn't put references on request as it looks like you'd struggle to find them but i've left them off mine for exactly the same reason. plus i don't want my boss to be contacted by accident and discover i'm looking for a job!! i don't know how much it counts against me...although i have had only one interview from about a million applied for...

I know that our HR department filters out CV's with references on request before I get to see them.

How about putting their names and job titles, then putting "contact details on request" - that shows you are not trying to hide anything.

I used to build CVs for people in a small way. I would always put their referees on a separate page at the end. That way they could use the CV without referees or with others substituted if they wished.
You don't want your CV to be too squashed up. It must be spaced enough to look pleasant before the recipient starts reading, or you are in the losing lane straight away.

The first page of a CV should be easy to the eye and kept as simple as possible. Keep references to previous employment, experience and education concise and denote them with a simple "see extension 1" etc.
In the extensions go as detailed as you like, but keep it relevent. You have to project the image of a diligent person without being a time waster. Good luck.
