Catholic Childrens Home in Poplar.
4 Answers
I have had a massive leap forward on one line of my ex husband's tress after 20 years of brick walls!!!!!!!!! All via genesunited contact, excellent site! I now have to try to trace two or maybe three children, all under 11, who were removed from their home after both parents died in 1911 in Poplar, and their older brother was in charge, but they were taken whilst he was out at work, he was a thames lighterman. The Catholic Church apparently removed the children, one girl became a nun later on and died in a French Convent, but there are other kids, where in Poplar, or close by, would they have gone in 1911/12? One of the boys was later reunited with his brother in 1920, and so we know they did not go far. Any idea welcome, I know the brother that turned up went into service and did not APPARENTLY go to war as he was only 18 in late 1918. Cheers Dotty
