i'm 20 by the way...
I'm old enough to know better! :-|
Hello Tat, I am 39 and I agree that the profanity filter is very sensitive but apparently it is being sorted...
The main thing about the filter is the fact that it is totally counter-productive. That is, it actually draws attention to potential naughties in circumstances where no-one would otherwise have paid them a blind bit of attention! For those too young to get the point instantly, these asterisks must be utterly captivating. ("What can that mean? Aw, yes, I've got it. Hey, look at this, Wayne!")
I'm 21, as you know, and I agree with Quizmonster about the asterisks (and obelisks) drawing attention to the word. Especially when it wasn't a swear word in the first place. But the editors have said that this problem will be sorted... let's see...
I agree, and I had also commented elsewhere, as Quizmonster says below, that they have the unintended effect of actually drawing people's attn. to something they might have not thought of otherwise; but I think the asterisks in S'thorpe etc. are just a bug in the system which they are trying to sort out. I am 40 (41 in 5 weeks' time).
I'm slightly older than Coggles. This profannyty filter makes I laugh!
im thirty ****ing five !!!!!!!
Four baker's dozens.
I'm 26 - I can prove this with official documents
I see they've adjusted it since last week then!
21
To prove our point, let's highlight the innocent words.

Documents.

Scuntthorpe.

Circumstances.
29 until the 21st July.
I would say that a person's age doesn't necessarily mean that they are more or less likely to be offended by swear words. Certainly, there are plenty of children out there who know worse words than I've ever heard! Similarly, there are older folk who probably know every swear word under the sun, but prefer not to hear or use them! I do agree, though, that the recent change to the profanity filter was a bit OTT and counter-productive. It wasn't perfect before the change, either, as it didn't allow the use of certain words like 'tit' as in bird, or 'bitch' as in female dog etc etc. Unless the techies can come up with a profanity filter which takes into account the context in which a word is used, I think we'll just have to put up with things! By the way, I'm a few years older than coggles! (Note to self - must remember PaulB's birthday!!!)
I agree. I have no objection to any word in our wonderful language, plain or colourful.
Aaawww, thanks Flirty that is sooo sweet :o)
I find s****horpe VERY offensive
