Royal Titles

evelynturpin's question jogged my memory - how are the titles of royal babies decided? How come Andrew's daughters are Princesses but Edward's daughter is 'only' a Lady? I thought that maybe it was cos Andy's a Duke & Eddie's an Earl, but that can't be the case because I'm reading a book about a previous Duke of York at the mo' and both his daughters had the title 'Lady'. Ultimately, it's because they can choose whether they want them to be Ladies or Princesses - ther's no rigid rule.
