Semaphore type signals were set-up in Parliament Sq. London in 1868 with red & green gas lamps for night use. Traffic lights were introduced with a one day trial in Wolverhampton on 11 Feb 1928. First permanently operated in Leeds on 16 March. Edinburgh on 19 March 1928.
