City Break Suggestions for 21st Birthday
Hello,
It will be my sisters 21st birthday in April (I know, I like to plan) im 26. I want to take her away for a girly/fun weekend somewhere cool. Neither of us have actually left the country before so this will be memorable. I was thinking Ibiza (but going later in the year for the clubbing aspect), but I am beginning to think better of it - I have done a fair bit of research and aside from the expense I am worried it will be too drunken louty.
I would like to go to a city, the most important things will be night life (clubbing but preferably not a place full of drunken idiots), shopping, touristy things to do to fill our days and above all that its a cool place to be and is impressive to both of us. If its warm then that's an advantage - I can arrange travel throughout the year next year, so April isn't a definite.
I have recently been made redundant so money is a bit of an issue - hence the forward planning. I would like to spend as little as possible, so we have more to see the sights and party etc... I have so far been looking into Paris (a fave so far), Amsterdam, Prague and Reykjavik. Flights are generally cheap to find but I am struggling to find much info on clubs - I don't want to be dissapointed, I need a good all rounder really.
Have you been to any of these cities? Have you any other suggestions? I just want a great first trip for us both where we can celebrate, be safe, have fun and enjoy our surroundings.
Thanks alot.

I went on a hen do to Milan and some good night life there though very male orientated. Some good places and a few clubs on the Corsa Como where all the main bars are. We also did a day trip to Lake Como which is stunning.

Barcelona is usually warm enough in April to spend some time on the beach (or, if not, in one of the many beach side restaurants serving superb paella). The city is packed with nightlife and sightseeing activities:

There are usually plenty of cheap flights, either direct to Barcelona or via Girona or Reus (both of which are just over an hour from Barcelona on the direct bus).
This link will show you which areas of Barcelona to head for if you're clubbing. (Click on each of the areas to see what it has to offer):

PS: Have you checked the Wikitravel pages?
Reykjavik. (Good for clubbing but very expensive drinks):
http://wikitravel.org/en/Reykjavik
Paris (probably not really a great clubbing scene with fairly expensive drinks):
http://wikitravel.org/en/Paris
Prague (Cheap drinks but possibly more of a 'pubbing' than 'clubbing' scene):

Barcelona:

For cheap (but good) accommodation in any city, try this site:
http://www.hostelworld.com/
(Don't be put off by the word 'hostel' in the URL. Simply conduct an initial search, then use the 'additional search options' to deselect hostels and select both hotels and guesthouses. Read the reviews carefully and check the location of any possible accommodation before booking).

Or stay in england and have a pampering day at Bath Thermae Spa which is wonderful http://www.thermaebathspa.com/
Thanks so far for your answers. Dublin does not appeal to me unfortunately. I wouldn't mind Ireland in general for a holiday but that's not what I am looking for right now. Paris is still a contender for me right now - Have started to filter through the info Buenchico has given me. I'm now also looking into Barcelona.
my friend and her partner just come back from paris and was paying nearly 10 english pounds for a small wine or beer, and that was in some of the cheaper bars,so i think if your looking for somewhere on budget i wouldn't recommend there, also there wasn't much clubbing nightlife as such, centred more round cafes.
costa del sol has some nicer areas to stay, puertoa banus(spelling)is lovely to walk round the marinas and see all the money people in their flash yachts!,and the nightlife is fantastic,no lager lout bars and good clubbing scene.cheap flights, cheap places to eat,and weather will be lovely!mmm sounds good!!
