When is cheating cheating?

OK - here is another dilemma of mine!

When is cheating cheating?

It has been suggested asking here is cheating. How about when I take a quiz round to family and brainstorm over a curry? Is that cheating?

It is only cheating if you have a copy of the answers from the question setter. Any other method is fine.

I agree, as you still have to use your own judgement in which answer to put down. It would be impossible to stop people googling or asking others anyway.

If you make an honest attempt to complete Crosswords and Quizzes yourself and find yourself stuck for a couple of Answers, then there is no harm in coming on to AB and asking for help. That's not cheating in my opinion.
Copying all your Answers from someone else's completed Quiz would be cheating !

I kid with folks on here and tell them that they are cheating. Most of them are used to me teasing them and know I'm only joking.

It would be cheating if you were breaking the rules, eg taking a forbidden computer into an examination, or googling on your iPhone in a pub quiz...

I think you mean when is asking cheating? It is not. You could say googling to find the answer is cheating. Except when done in exam conditions any way of referencing the answer is acceptable. I like helping on answerbank as I enjoy using the internet to find the answers. The people who ask and get their answers are happy, and the helpers enjoy helping and they too go away happy, and if they are thanked as well, very happy.

I have an elderly neighbour (86) that likes these quizzes. She never sends them in but likes to finish them, she looks up all sorts of books to find answers and if she fails asks me to put them on here. i have done in the past but have had some comments made about this and told her so. sad really it passes the time for her and she has not asked me since.

Please feel you can come on here for yourself or for your neighbour, that's what the site is for. Please ignore those people that moan about it, most of us would like to help and enjoy doing it.

Fruiticat I dont know who commented about what, but there is a very large cross section of people on answerbank, and the majority want to help and do not make any negative comments about questions. Please tell your neighbour that there are folks here that would like to help her if we can in the future.
