Tories: Good or Evil?

I am of the opinion that the Conservatives are essentially a horrible lot and that the phrase 'Tory Christian' is contradictive in terms. Can anyone who answers this please refrain from the usual 'Labour ruined this country' etc. I'm just interested what people think of the Tories.

They are all looking after their own Sj, but the tories are taking care of the rich folk, not the lower classes, or even the middle class es either!.........they like to make the rich richer, and the poor poorer, always have and always will!..................

Can anyone explain why, between 1951 and 1959, just after the end of wartime austerity, the Tory party was returned to office three times with increasing majorities, based on the idea that the poor were now becoming much richer than they had ever been in relative terms.

Well I`m middle class and Labour sure as hell didn`t take care of me. The only thing I would say about them was their patien`s charter. I think that was good. As far as anything else is concerned, I can`t think of one thing they did for me. A friend asked me to try and think of something one night and we came to the conclusion there was nothing. As far as the Tories are concerned the only thing they have done for me is abandon the increase in passenger air duty. Time will tell. You can`t please all of the people all of the time. Such is the way of life.

What do you mean by Conservatives? The parliamentary party or their supporters in the country?
I know many Tory supporters who think of themselves as Christians whereas politicians in power have other fish to fry that putting their religious beliefs into practice.

No one has published anything good about the Labour or Liberal parties either.

Tories are leading the drive to get the finances of this country back into better shape and my view is that there are some massive positives that are going to come through in one years time - there was an article recently (Economist if I recall but vague on when) suggesting that Lloyds was already worth over $45 bln - so double that for when RBS comes through, then add in the rest and what are they looking at $120 bln plus.

Also tax revenue collection is way up against target and this excludes PRT coming in from the North Sea with the elevated world crude prices.......The Canadian Conservatives under Stephen Harper took 3 years to claw back Canadian debt from similar levels as the UK and that is the model the Cons/Libs are following........and Labour are quietly *** themselves if the debt does come under such control and then growth is boosted.

Oh and by the way, John Prescott (when he was in government) used to fly in First Class but I`m sure he represented the humble masses.

I tend to believe the Tories rather than any other party. Bury your head in the sand if you want to but the Tories have made a better fist of running the country every time than the-party-run-at present-by-minibrain.

the tories may seem bad to idiots who cannot see the big picture but essentially they are always clearing up the mess left by red or noo labour. Unemployment goes up because they are non jobs that Labour create for their supporters like mickeythepr1ck here that need to be shed as one of the measures needed to get the finances back on track.

When serving in the armed forces I always received better pay rises under the Conservatives.

I think it is silly to call them evil. They have a political outlook that some people disagree with that's all. Basically they are more for personal responsibility rather than people relying on the state for all their needs but of course their are factions within the Tory party who wouild like to take this philosophy to the extreme where survival of the fittest would apply. The Labour party is more for the state taking care of people's needs but again there are extremists within the party who would like the state to control everything. Neither are evil. They will be judged on their results, where they grew up or went to school is irrelevent.

Sqad: Yes, I am genuinely interested in what people think of the Tories. I may not like them (on the whole), but it's just that I never hear their supporters coming out with Pro-Conservative stuff. It always seems to be Anti-Labour stuff. I am balanced, regarding this. During the 1992 election, I wrote to the Labour Party accusing them of only ever spouting Anti-Conservative rhetoric, rather than Pro-Labour.
