As a freelance I spend a lot of time wading through job ads, and its become very evident that there are a great number of londoners who appear to think like this...you would be amazed at how many of them neglect to mention a location of the job.

I have on occasion asked them their location despite having no intention of applying for the role just to make a point that people outside london do look for jobs too...and when questioned they are always, without fail so far, in london.
I have even seen them note location as northwest or southwest etc...strangely forgetting that that actually is the name of a whole section of the country ...not a section of london..

americans are lambasted for having a very insular attitude and apparently forgetting there is a whole world outside of the US ...but are londoners guilty of the same in their own country...?

cheers

I think the two are different. Jobs advertised in London are almost certainly IN London, the ones I've looked at in the London papers say if the job is elsewhere.
The American view (IMO) is different, in that it's such a vast country, they have no reason to look beyond their own borders - they are not like us, a small island with close continental neighbours.

these are nationwide websites, thats the point..these are not local london papers where its safe to assume its london, they have members from all over the country, scotland, wales, ireland etc - they just assume that people know wheer they are and that everyone reading that site is from london...

i have even seen 'must be local' wrtten ...with no location listed...

i have been freelance for about 15 years and have seen this a lot...i spend hours every day searching and as i say i often ask just to see what they say and flag up the idea that some people do not live in london...

i am talking more about their nature not the geography really...more that they think london is the centre of it all and thats all that matters...like the us thinks its the centre of the world...
