When did racism become such a toxic subject? If you think about it logically without getting all emotional and jumping up and down, what we are talking about here basically is not liking someone because of their race. It sounds so innocuouss but the subject has been whipped up over the years that It seems to be now on a par with child molesters, murderers and rapists. Is it justified the way people get so hot under the collar about it?
No doubt I will be villified for even raising the subject but I just wondered what others thought.
I was actually abused earlier this week. A car with 2 young turks in drove past my van, they recognised the english number plate, they stuck their heads out of the window and shouted and bawled something or other.
water off a ducks back, i don't understand turkish at all and my german is Sugar.
But i don't think they were saying hello.
I think if you asked someone who gets 'hot under the collar' about racism how they would compare it to child molestation, murder and rape, they would not claim they equate.
On the whole I agree with chuck, it's stupidity, as is homophobia, xenophobia and sexism amongst others. Luckily it's a dying trend as each new generation seems to be more tolerant than the last.
Pa_ul If your talking about degrees, then no you can't equate casual non- violent racism to the examples, however as the Serb situation showed in chilling detail casual racism given free reign, for certain individuals, can turn to murder.
I get what you mean davethedog, and you could argue that some murders, rapes and other horrific attacks have been down to racism, I was simply accepting racism as what I percieved dave50 to be suggesting i.e. casual manifestations, as opposed to attacks, where the perpetrator doesn't seem to see the big issue.
