When did racism become such a toxic subject? If you think about it logically without getting all emotional and jumping up and down, what we are talking about here basically is not liking someone because of their race. It sounds so innocuouss but the subject has been whipped up over the years that It seems to be now on a par with child molesters, murderers and rapists. Is it justified the way people get so hot under the collar about it?
No doubt I will be villified for even raising the subject but I just wondered what others thought.

as someone who has been on the receiving end of racial abuse, i think it is something to get hot under the collar about
When wasn't racism such a toxic subject?
Interesting comment...not liking people does sound innocuous. Vilifying them, killing them, denying them education......still innocuous???????
personally my views are, if you want to be racist fine, but don't discrimate or abuse
I'm of the opinion that judging somebody, or disliking them based on race is plain stupid (to abuse or insult even more so)

If you don't like a person then don't like them because of who they are, not what they are.
I was actually abused earlier this week. A car with 2 young turks in drove past my van, they recognised the english number plate, they stuck their heads out of the window and shouted and bawled something or other.

water off a ducks back, i don't understand turkish at all and my german is Sugar.
But i don't think they were saying hello.
I suspect much of the intolerance is down to culture differences, which does tend to apply to groups rather than individuals.
and ignorance and stupity
I agree totaly with all comments on here.

However as a case in points Racism the Jews in Nazi Germany or Ratko Mladic

I take it you find this acceptable
It sounds so inocuous? I don't think so!!!!!
I think if you asked someone who gets 'hot under the collar' about racism how they would compare it to child molestation, murder and rape, they would not claim they equate.
On the whole I agree with chuck, it's stupidity, as is homophobia, xenophobia and sexism amongst others. Luckily it's a dying trend as each new generation seems to be more tolerant than the last.
whoa, hold on paul.... sexism? what's wrong with that?

treat em mean to keep them keen.
it would be nice if Dave would come back and tell us what he classes as "innocuous"
mick, that's not sexism, that's tactics!
euwww i don't like being in the middle of you two
Pa_ul If your talking about degrees, then no you can't equate casual non- violent racism to the examples, however as the Serb situation showed in chilling detail casual racism given free reign, for certain individuals, can turn to murder.
I get what you mean davethedog, and you could argue that some murders, rapes and other horrific attacks have been down to racism, I was simply accepting racism as what I percieved dave50 to be suggesting i.e. casual manifestations, as opposed to attacks, where the perpetrator doesn't seem to see the big issue.
Pa_ul I take you point totaly and we are walking the same street, we just wish to point out why racism is toxic.
Can Aussies throw the racist dice everytime someone says "your ancestor was a ciminal" ?

Can French do same if they're called 'frogs' for their diet ?

And Germans if they're called crauts ? Same for Polish & jam-roles?

Or poms even ? Rednecks/yankidoodles/abbos/chinks/n***s ?

You are who you are - be proud & you'll earn respect ! What galls me is certain races expect special considerations in education & work.
What races would they be then?
