Rise in the number of people with dementia

I would have thought it was obvious why this is the case. It's the elephant in the room. There are too many people being kept alive on medication and getting too old. No doubt i will get abuse for stating un unpalatable truth but someone needs to say it.

in years gone by many old people remained in their homes with care provided by the family. They were fed cleaned and had the stimulation of day to day activity as well as the safety and sruycture of routines and daily rituals. Now we let them live alone, displaced from their familiar surroundings , or they are cared for by strangers. They sit watching tv or just dozing in a chair... and then when they seem disorientated, or confused folk wonder why.
Of course dementia has organic causes but I wonder if it is more obvious now because those who are no longer coping get into difficulty far earlier.

it's perhaps only truly unpalatable, but don't like that word at all, to those families who end up looking after their relatives, seeing them slip away from them piece by piece, and dementia is not only an old persons disease, have a look at some data, it can strike much earlier age, and now that diagnosis is better, clearer, then it may not be so much on the increase as now fully recognised by the medical profession.
Maybe dave is getting close to *that* age-as he seems a bit worried -
