Probably best not to wear the fur of endangered species but I have no strong feelings on it. I imagine in particularly cold countries that fur would be the best thing to keep a human warm and I don't have animals and humans on the same level so I would tell them to crack on... although as ethically as possible I guess.
Im torn. I've never had anything fur so don't know how lovely it feels but in my mind I guess it depends on how the animal died. If its being killed in the wild purely to obtain the fur then no but on the hand is it really any different to wearing leather shoes or a leather handbag?
I have a raccoon jacket. Last worn many years ago. If it were to get cold enough I would wear it as to do so would benefit me more than the wardrobe where it languishes.
There are a few pieces of old fur that are circulating around the family, when I say old I mean, probably, 70yrs plus. Back then it was quite acceptable to buy and wear fur and it seems wrong to me to discard it after all this time. I don't agree with hunting for exotic pelts and am undecided on the farming aspect.
I personally wouldn't do it, I would also try and talk any friends or family out of it. I would never abuse anyone in the street for it though as I have seen done before.
I wore it as a teenager, a beautiful full length coat handed down from 3 generations, then it became a bed throw and then back in the wardrobe. When I tried to take it to charity shops none would take it, it met an untimely end which is sad but better than the risk of being set upon for something done so very long ago.
Don't see much need for it these days, when they can make synthetic products that look just as good and probably have better thermal characteristics then fur. Besides as has already been stated fur looks better on the animal.
Leather IS a by-product of meat. I have no objection to Inuit or African tribes etc. wearing fur or animal skins as invariably it is the best thing they can find/use and is always a by-product, in fact they tend to use the whole animal.... skin, bones, sinews and meat.
Breeding animals for the fur is wrong; killing animals solely for the fur is wrong, but there is nothing wrong with wearing fur from animals that have to be culled.
