There are hundreds of this type of predictions every year and it hasn't happened yet. It seems some half wits get great pleasure out of scaring the bezeesus out of impressionable people. Relax and enjoy life, it will never happen. If it does, I'll apologise. (°¿°)

Seriously though, Jake, relax, it will not happen. I remember being in a similar situation to you, when, in 1983 my older brother gave me a book about the prophesies of Nostradamus in which he predicted the world would end in 1999. I was 29 years old and convinced the world was going to end in 16 years time. Part of me was saying "What's the point of getting married, settling down and starting a family if this is what the future holds?" Needless to say, 1999 came and went without incident and I regret the day my brother gave me that book! Now I just take these end of the world predictions with a pinch of salt and I suggest you do the same. Trust me, we'll all be laughing at that Dec 23 prediction in a few years time. :)

There's certainly been a lot of scare-mongering about the Mayan prophecies for 2012. However, some people interpret it as meaning global change for the better at the end of 2012. Now that wouldn't be such a bad thing, would it? If you want to believe in it, I'd hang on to that interpretation.
