Why are we so anti Olympics?

Are we unique among host nations for sla66ing the event off? I see nothing but negative b1tching on here. Did China, Australia, Spain, Greece etc all have a vast batch of naysayers or is Britain unique in this 0rgy of self loathing? It's like we must find something to sl4g off, even the perfectly reasonable logo gets its share of bile, I just can't fathom it!

It's a shame there isn't an olympic event for moaning. We'd be a shoe in for gold.

Design is ultimately subjective but from a technical point of view the logo is asymmetrical, has lots of jagged edges, doesn't seem to 'range' against any virtual gridlines and puts two colours together which tonally fight each other.

For those who think it looks vibrant, edgy, different, energetic etc
that is why

For others it will appear untidy, messy, aggressive, unprofessional

It depends on our personal preferences for receiving information.

Zeuhl - as you say the 02 is an excellent venue but -

the original nonsensical ill-thought-out bankrupting ego-trip that was the Millenium Dome was an utter farce, laughable if not for the cost in terms of time, money and national morale.

The fact that someone has had the vision to make it into a useful and functioning building in no way detracts from the sheer pomposity of Hesletine, compounded by Blair - of the original purpose of the construction.

I can't believe the price of tickets. Are they really affordable for the average person?

how has the logo mugged everyone. Do you really think you would be better off without the olympics. I've answered this before, the area has been regenerated with plenty of affordable local housing soon to be available, much needed as well. The area has been transformed from a total eyesore into something quite outstanding. The public demand for tickets would seem to show the negative comments on here are the vast minority. As for getting involved by have a street party in Rochdale, no-one is making you, if you don't want to then don't but lets see how many turn out for the torch procession, might guess is loads. As for the exclusivity of the location are we supposed to hold an event in every town. Whoever suggested the gold medal for moaning is spot on. Whatever we try to do in this country is shouted down - except for Blair's dome (the ultimate folly)!!

To be honest I think Brits like to moan about anything signifcant that is coming up. It seems to be in the national psyche. I`m not sure how representative of Britain AB is though. Most people I know seem to be mildly interested in it (apart from my sister who has decided to leave the country for those two weeks). I was checking out of a hotel in Toronto recently and the receptionist said "Wow, it must be so exciting in the UK now, what with the Olympics and the Jubilee". It seems foreigners are more interested in it than we are (if airline bookings are anything to go by)

The novice there was a loss of business, jobs and homes when they cleared that site.

Ticket are sold abroad in specific markets so how well they have sold will only become apparent when the games start but there are 1.5m tickets available for the football.

Last week the radio station ran a poll that came out with 48% of Londoners either against or unbothered about the games.

As a nation we seem to major in schadenfreude, we love to see things go wrong in our country. If the Games are a resounding success, so many people are going to be very very miserable! This isn't a comment about the costs, simply on natonal attitudes, I think people would have been very negative whatever the cost!
