What do you believe?
55 Answers
I don't believe in God and I don't accept the theory of the big bang. Yet I find it extremely difficult to believe in nothing. What do you believe in? Do you pray to something other than a God? Are you a believer? Our is there nothing but this?

Assurances about some sort of hereafter? Take pleasure in your surroundings, and activities with friends and family - take comfort in loved ones and children if you have any, and revel in doing stuff - I have come to the conclusion, rather later in life than I would have liked, that one should attempt to fill every waking day with activity and learning and conversation - we are not here long enough to waste waking hours on doing nothing - I only regret that I did not arrive at this conclusion earlier in my life :)
It might help to move the conversation along a little if you were to expand a little - you dont believe in god - why not? you dont accept the BBT - why not?what alternative explanation do you think better suits the observations?
For me, I have no belief in anything supernatural. What you see is pretty much what you get I think the exploration of the subatomic will yield a better understanding of the forces that shape our universe, and our exploration of outer space will complement that. I have no belief in any sort of afterlife, or an immortal soul/ energy matrix.

I believe in empirical observation
If I see galaxies flying away from each other I believe they were once closer together and still closer earlier
When I discover that there is a measurable radiation contant throughout the sky that fits with remarkable accuracy to the calculated values from a big bang.
I tend to believe.
I would say that to doubt the general big bang is pretty much as ridiculous s believing a man in a long beard.
Now that's not to say that the standard interpretation of it is right - such luminaries as Roger Penrose are now challenging this - but to doubt that the Universe started in a very small dimension and expanded, time and space and matter together is frankly religious in that it places an arbitary opinion above observed facts
Now of course people have the right to their religious views - but I wouldn't be making fun of people worshiping guys in the sky if I ignored observations just because it didn't make sense to me

This says it so much better than I ever could
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.[17
