I was raped when I was 20. As it happens it was 18 years today.
They make you look like a *** in court. Have sex with one man and you are a prostitute according to the law.
The Rasta who raped me got 4 years and served 2 and a half. Do you think that is fair? I am basically worth 2 and a half years?

Sir Alec’s story brings another factor to mind. Women in Saudi Arabia aren’t allowed out alone in public, or to speak to a man who isn't a close family member, so the low incidence of rape isn’t as a result of the allotted punishment – it’s as a result of repression. The man in question raped a member of his own family.

Chopping off the offending member for raping someone is not unknown in the Middle East.

If we regard the death penalty as revenge rather than punishment then how do we regard a prison sentence?

Maybe we should start by doing away with parole and make a criminal serve their full sentence. If they misbehave they get extra time.

Birdie, the point I was making was that since Saudi women are not permitted to leave the house alone, it’s highly unlikely that a man would get the opportunity to rape a female who was not a member of his own family. The low incidence of rape in Saudi doesn’t result from the expected punishment – it results from the appalling subjugation of women.

I could not live in any country that had the death penalty, especially when the preferred method is as barbaric as beheading rather than lethal injection.

Keyplus, just a simple question, why did Saudi Arabia turn down your application for residency?

Maybe he didn't apply because he thought the UK a better option.

The reason I asked Keyplus about his nationality previously is that, having worked there myself, I know you need a job, a work permit and a visa to even get into the country if you are a non-national. There are exceptions for pilgramage though.
