Freemasons?

I know very little about the masons but find it hard to believe that such a secret society still manages to be so powerful these days. For years at work there have been mumblings about people getting promoted because they are in the masons and several senior staff are reasonably open about being one. What is it that makes them look after each other, even defending what is morally wrong in some cases (so I'm led to believe)?

You are entitled to your opinion SJ, however, having been quite involved now for a few years, I don't think it's an "old boys club" at all. I've made a lot of friends by being one of the "ladies" and we do our own thing...........

Mr BM spends hours learning all his words and his ceremonial bits. And, as I say, I like my free Tuesdays.

This is one of the problems with a so called "secret society" like the Masons Noodles. Because people do not understand them, all sorts of nonsense gets tittle tattled about them.

I repeat, a mason's code is one of strong morality. They would not stoop to criminality. Indeed if you had a criminal record, you wouldn't be accepted.

But then if it's all above board and just professional people who do charity events, socialise and look after their members in a crisis why not be open about. There wouldn't be tittle-tattle or misunderstandings if their was transparency and honesty. The reputation must be based on some fact.

the sign is normally in the handshake. Not entirely sure how a condemned man would shake the Judge's hand.

This is one of the problems about freemasonry - unfounded spurious comments and rumours. Add to that Dan Brown and just make up the rest.

It isnt just professional people, Prudie. All walks of life can join. And they are open. Mr BM is unemployed, but he is still welcome.

Mr BM's lodge holds open days and evenings and ANYONE is invited to attend.

There are secrets they will not divulge which are a part of their ceremony and communication.

Boys and their toys role playing. Yes, they help each other. Boys' school, Girls' school, Hospital. But when my father was seiously ill (long time mason, Master of Lodge, Honours etc.) Got no help at all. One chap turned up for 10 minutes, patted me on the hand and said all would be well. So much for brotherly love.

Jeez, well that's a different bloody world to the freemasonry I've experienced. I go to lectures at churches about architecture and garden parties, fgs.

See Daisy that kind of anecdote is just what I'm talking about, that is what the rumours are and as I said they must be based on some fact.

i don't think that would happen nowadays. Now all judges, policemen, MPs etc have to disclose any such interest.
