//I only put this up due to the times when many Muslims, like myself, have been criticized for saying stay at home mothers are good.//
… at 09:47 this morning. There is no question of the thread being hijacked.
Lightbulb, you’re making it up – but nothing new there. I don’t know about Islam bashing, but in your book Naomi bashing seems to be a bit of a hobby. Don’t forget that everything I’ve ever said – and everything you’ve ever said – can be verified, so may I suggest you get it right before making such stupidly inaccurate statements about me again.

no, maybe not islam bashing, but you sure do like criticising religion, generally, but specifically islam. There is nothing wrong in that, in fact, i couldnt care less what you thought of islam, what i do care about though is the fact that you do say what you want, yet i and many other muslims, most noticeably keyplus, as i have read some of those posts, seem to be criticised a hell of a lot on our beliefs. I dont mind being crticised, but when you call me sexist or imply it, as you have done, i do take offence to that.

Lightbulb, I criticise religion because it creates misery in this world and hence, it deserves to be criticised – and it isn’t specifically Islam. Ask Goodlife. If you choose to post your religious opinions here, and are unable to meet any opposition with rational argument, that is your problem – and if you take offence because people view you as sexist, I suggest you examine your own posts, because therein you will find the reasons. I make no apology.
Does your religion dictate how women should dress, Lightbulb?
And what is the reason for such commandments?
All the abrahamic religions are, objectively speaking, sexist. Islam is no different in that regard, and probably more restrictive than the others, truth be told. If the tenets of your religion are sexist, then if you follow those tenets, you too are sexist. I do not see how, logically speaking, it could be considered any other way.

well it's a shame, this thread has digressed entirely from the OP which is about women staying at home. It's now an argument between the usual combatants.
To return to the OP: My niece is choosing to stay at home and not go back to work, because she'd rather give up some of the extras of life in order to see her little girl growing up. I think that's admirable, but not everyone can afford it.

i do not see how, logically speaking that islam is such a big religion and has so many women followers if it is sexist? you go on about how it is sexist to women, restricts womens freedom and all that, pardon my language, c**p, but if it is so "sexist" hy such a huge following?
as usual, you will ue your same argument of marriage and all that, but that does not answer the question. If islam is so sexist, why marry a muslim? the truth is, women are finding something in islam and are following it and believe in it. Why? becuase islam is not sexist. islam is accepting and is about equality in different roles.
I do not expect any of you atheists to agree, because you wont, as you cannot ee past that, but if islam is that sexist, than tackle the problem of women accepting it.

True Boxtops, my sister cannot afford to do it, and even if Mrs O did go back to her former career, the childcare costs would be so prohibitive that she would effectively be working for no financial gain, which to me is a nonsense but if she felt she needed to do it for social/career reasons then I would suport that. And no, we don't claim benefits.
Boxtops = Just to be clear. Lightbulb has found an article in a paper that he thought he could use in an ongoing argument with Naomi and others about sexism in Islam. He thought that because the article had science in it's title then he could use it to prove that what he has been saying all along has been correct.
What he has been saying essentially boils down to - A womans place is in the home.

@Lightbulb. You know, your argument descends into logical nonsense.
In defence of the charge that Islam is sexist, you talk about the size of the muslim religion and the number of female adherents. But those female adherents, like their male counterparts, are brought up in the faith. They are brought up to be devout, to be faithful, to obey the tenets of lslam.
And of all the marriages to muslim males, which religion is most strongly represented? Er yes, Muslim women. And these muslim parents will bring up their children, female or male, to believe in islam and the teachings of the religion.
Cultural conditioning, Lightbulb. Its difficult to break.

now i have said what is needed and will say no more on religion, yet i expect the others to continue as that is what they are here to do. Somewhere soon, i expect another thread to pop up with the usual criticisms of islam where i will again, probably be referred to as sexist, but in truth i care little of what you think, as when you get of here and look at the real world, islam is a large religion with a huge and growing female problem and if islam is really sexist, than maybe you should get off here and tackle t out there.
