no, I saw the wink, but my point remains: British culture has been overtaken, even here, by American culture. Not by "European" culture. The fact that we like it doesn't lessen the loss. Bloomy's looking in the wrong direction.
Actually cultural dominance of American and western media and the degree language plays in it is a very interesting question but probably not one for this thread where we're being invited to foresee a rather ludicrous re-run of WWII
jno, British culture has been taken over by American culture - but our laws are being taken over by Europe - and I assume that's what he's talking about.
Complain to your MEP. Do it double quick if he happens to be a UKIP MEP. You can ask him why he's getting a fat salary and expenses from an organisation which he objects to our being in. And whether he thinks a form of proportional representation should be adopted in UK general elections. After all, it's what got him elected.
True, he did say that, but his OP speaks of the EU replacing the old Soviet Union, and that implies potential domination over all, which would include loss of identity, sovereignty, history and culture. I think he's wrong - but I think that's what he's talking about.
How do we lose our history? It is a fait accompli, as UKIP would say ;) Any bit of it in particular you would like to be able to lose? Women getting the vote perhaps?
