It’S Horrible When Someone You Know…

…turns out to be truly despicable. A guy connected (once) to my band used to regularly help us out at gig set-up and, as a whiz in electronics, often helped us with emergency repairs. We always considered him a bit odd, but it was still a huge shock when we discovered he’s just been put away for that most heinous of crimes, its victim his very young daughter.
Just wondered if anyone here has had a similar experience of knowing someone for a long time, then suddenly finding they’ve done something truly awful.

One of my ex work colleagues was also convicted for it with his daughter, one the worst thing was that before it all came out he started a relationship with a friend of mine who had 3 small girls at the time, luckily he was found out before they got too serious, but we did wonder afterwards if he went into that relationship because of those girls. Still makes me heave when I think about it.

The oddest thing for me - and really it's only this realisation that made me put up this post - is that this paedophile of the worst kind (if such a thing exists) is someone whose mobile number is in my contacts. It makes me shiver.
It's also the realisation that my daughter occasionally comes to see the band play, and if he'd been there on one of those occasions... no, he couldn't have done anything, but I can't help myself imagining that he might be looking at her in that way and with those intentions.

Twice. First one, an ex colleague and friend, turned into a real conman and robbed elderly couples of their life savings. Second one, a godson, found guilty of familial homicide. The sense of shock lasts a long time.

I don't think I know anyone who has been discovered to be "unsavoury", but I'm concerned that there will be someone getting away with it.

seeing work colleagues perjure themselves so they dont get into trouble
but get someone else who is relatively blameless in the crap

is pretty depressing.

Not like the above....

but I have seen more people wrongly convicted/blamed than I have seen child-molesters.

Funny you should mention that, Peter. It has been mentioned that his ex had some record of mental instability and that - in theory at least - the accusations could have been false. It's one of those situations where you have to think of the person's character (I and others regarded him as creepy) and assume that in the majority of cases a jury will reach the right verdict.

Had a friend who abused his daughter and her friend right into there teenage years, ended up doing 6 years in prison. A nicer chap you couldn't wish to meet, just can't believe it, but both testified against him, he was just a 'normal' middle class bloke.

Our family were in very close contact with a very nice charming man who is/was happily married. He was secretly abusing a 12 yr old while staying with his much loved family! it all came out 20 yrs ago and they have never spoken since.
Shame i cant spill the beans and tell you more, but I personally know a few people who are on AB.

Very sad when a 12 yr old is scared and afraid to say whats going on , in fear of breaking up a good relationship and causing lots of grief.
She still suffers with the after effects of it all going wrong in opening up and telling the truth.

This discussion has made me think of something else but I’m not sure if I should add a separate post about it.
It takes very little search engine effort to find – in numbers too ridiculous to contemplate – galleries of nude or semi-nude selfies by female teenagers. It’s easy to say it’s disturbing to find these images in such quantity (indeed, at all) but my question is this; why is it happening? Yes, porn is – regrettably – becoming close to fashionable*, but what is it that’s prompting young girls to expose themselves in this way? Surely it drops into the grateful laps of paedos?
*I say that because of very common social examples; go to any outdoor market and you’ll find sellers of garments boasting t-shirts with ‘porn star’ text on them; and those uber-chav leggings with similarly suggestive text across the backside, at sizes for children, no less.

Yes, a guy in work. Came here with his family from an African country (don't want to give away too many details).
Werd, religious type, always preaching, liked to play the race card, had a problem with females in authority.


Went down for raping his teenage daughter.
