As a newcomer here, thanks for verifying who Squad - or indeed Sqad is. Now all I need to know is - what is the case regarding ladies underwear? Some say he likes satin, silky other say lace. I know it's of little consquence in the grand scheme of things but I'm curious ;0)

Most people agreed with his views, but he was the only one who spoke out so vehemently, as it was taboo to criticise the NHS.

He did my ENT operation. I remember that I was working and couldn`t check into the hospital at the usual time so I got there in the afternoon. Because of that, he was the one who came to see me and do a few checks before the op. He said he hadn`t done anything like that for years. I was a bit nervous and asked him if I really needed the op (I think maybe I was a bit worried that they might mess up my eardrums and ruin my career). He said (in his booming voice) "Young Lady! Don`t think for one minute that we would do an operation in this hospital that wasn`t absolutely necessary". That told me.

Don't believe he has been struck off and I always thought that in the medical profession Mr was a Consultant therefore higher up the ladder than Doctor. Correct me if I am wrong please.

glenbar - consultants in the UK can be Mr/Miss/Mrs or Doctor.
When surgeons pass their exams and become members of their Royal Colleges FRCS for example they revert to being Mr/Miss/Mrs (sqad explains why on page 4).
On the other hand physicians (cardiologists paediatricians etc.) when they pass the specialist exams and become members of their particular colleges MRCP, retain the title of doctor.

As an addition we don't call vets Dr in UK but I believe they do in US and Australia for starters.

Also in Canada, Prudie: Doctor of veterinary medicine. Optometrists are also called Doctor.
