Understanding Islam

What is the best way to understanding Islam?

There are so many religions but I am especially keen to gain more of an understanding of Islam.

Islam seems to dominate our news these days and I'm interested to learn more about its influence in todays world. I've become very curious (and confused) though I am not thinking of converting.

Ive never read the Koran, is this the best place to start? Serious answers only please.

I went to a mosque recently as a guest and I was treated wonderfully. Very respectful and I was given plenty of lovely food.

Like all Abrahamic Faiths, Islam is deeply bigoted and misogynistic. That aught to be enough to keep any intelligent person well clear.

There’s no reason not to start by reading the Koran – read everything. You will find diversity and inconsistency, but Islamic ‘Ask the Imam’ type websites will give you some idea of the influence and control that Islam holds over its adherents.

The way I look at Islam, within they have idiots that are trying to cause further tension within a Country that their forefathers came to & was excepted, I think the Muslim Community are aware of these fanatics & could ease tension by reporting these evil people, these clowns that have gone to Syria via Turkey must have been known to their family / community, why did their family / friends not report them? or do the condone it? regards this stupid Government "THINKING" of withdrawing their passports, Do you not think in your way of thinking, don't think about it, DO IT YOU MORONS.
