She is on record as making this statement:

"We live in a country which ordinary people are frightened to speak their minds, frightened that they might say the "wrong thing". This is a dangerous situation for any society. A frightened population which cannot say what it thinks is a population under tyrannical control.

Furthermore, this widespread fear has resulted in a fearful and politicised police force that is more concerned by what is "correct" than with prosecuting crimes"

Is she correct? Is the UK public less inclined to speak out and now more apathetic with our politicians leaving a hopeless vacuum and therefore as a nation we are more vulnerable?

she is bang on, just look what happens on here when someone dares to have a view not on the "approved list". The name calling and isms fly!
1. No.
2. No.
TGT - That's rich coming from someone who can rarely make a post without resorting to calling people names because they have a different point of view from yours...
No, and no.

Obviously such a position chimes with the views of the organisation to which she belongs.

She is hardly likely to say - "Personal freedom of speech and movement, and the ability of all levels of society to get involved in the issues that affect them directly, is higher than at any time in this county's history ..."

but that doesn't mean that the statement is not true - it is.

No, I don't think that's true.

I believe that we are living in a time where opinions are robustly expressed and then attacked.

I see on AB that thread after thread on potentially controversial subjects are posted, with each 'side' having their say without problem.

The Internet has also democratised debate, with millions on blogs on political and social matters inviting debate.

Social media has also given voice to hundreds of millions around the world.

She, in my opinion - is not correct.

Andy, not obvious at all! She made this statement a few years ago under the banner Why I proud to be UKIP'.
Furthermore, this widespread fear has resulted in a fearful and politicised police force that is more concerned by what is "correct" than with prosecuting crimes"

That statement contradicts itself.
I think the poor turn out in elections show apathy has always been a problem.
In real life more people are speaking out, they are worried about the future for sure. Here in ABerland people have reputations to keep and will never speak out about real problems if speaking about that problem makes them look even the tiniest bit anti Johnny Foreigner.

Really SP?, I must check the title of this site!!!

Talbot, this may be so but is it not true that their influence is so limited and our government is not doing enough to allay fears about the future?
I wouldn't disagree that their influence is limited. Our government doesn't care about the fears the public have as far as they are concerned ... 'The public wants what the public gets'
where have I called anyone names JTH?

For example I had post about islam removed the other day, then I had the post about the post removed! We are not allowed to show anti Islamic views here.
That fact that she is able to speak her mind freely rather proves that what she is saying is false.

The only thing stopping people like her voicing her opinion is not tyranny, it is their own insecurity that they will be ridiculed for being wrong.

Her attack on the police is not justified. Her opinion is probably borne out of ignorance. The Crown Prosecution Service decides who is finally prosecuted, not the police. To blame the Police for crimes not going to trial shows a deep misunderstanding of how the justice system works.

I can be bothered to search through your numerous posts referencing 'hand-wringing, bed-wetting lefties', etc....

I suspect that your post was removed because it/you/others transgressed the Site Rules (nothing to do with the subject matter per se).
And threads about 'removed threads' are always removed themselves.......you've been around long enough to know that.

Any and all discussions about Muslims/Islam will stay unless they degenerate to such an extent that the Editors think there is precious little point in allowing them to continue.
*can't...
Most definitely she is correct.

People can voice their concerns but can they express them in the language they want without fear of difficulty and criticism where none should be warranted?
Where have I called anyone names JTH?

I've got no idea TTT

Your most sincerely

I don't think she is correct at all. Support for obviously racist and fascist concerns was unheard of years ago. But now people seem only too willing to support the Far Right.

I recall the disgust I felt when I first saw a candidate from the BNP on the voting lists a few years ago, in my Constituency.

I suppose what it shows is that the British innate racism never really went away....its just that people have less shame nowadays. The P word and the C word, and the N word are now back in fashion !

( sorry I couldn't disappoint you TTT ! )
-- answer removed --
The C, N and P word are back in fashion.

?

Where?
is pointing out inconvenient facts racist?

recent posts about muslim men abusing women for example, is it racist to report the facts?
