I'm not even certain that Clinton will win to stand against him and beat him, her age is against her and, in a funny way, her gender. I'm sure the US would love to have a female president, but may feel that they would be voting for her because of that, rather than policy, and therefore hesitate.
I can also foresee a scenario when Corbyn ends up PM here - looked equally far-fetched a while ago. I may start to gibber more than usual!

If he secures the Republican nomination then it won't be too long before the Clintons are moving back into the White House.
To win an election you need to have your own party solidly behind you and capture the majority of the floating voters.
Trump is divisive. He may not evev be able to carry all the Republican voters.

//With results still coming in, Trump had won at least 175 Super Tuesday delegates, while Cruz picked up at least 89. Overall, Trump leads the Republican field with 257.//

I friended several Americans, on FB, for the sake of some daft online game so I've been exposed to press reports about this set of candidates for the past couple of years. I make no claims to understanding any of it, beyond "X is a [derogatory epithet]" and whatever I can glean from Wikpedia about their governmental setup.
Obama got pwned, by Congress, for the last 3 or 4 years of his tenure so the true horror is that Trump will be operating without the brakes on.

Oh, forgot to add that Congress and Senate are voted in something like 2 years out of step with each other. I think this is stupid because voters tend to react to the incumbent by voting in the opposite party to the upper house so, at best, the incumbents are only fully functional for 2 years where the overlap works in their favour.
