//Britain is becoming more ethnically segregated and people may seek "Donald Trump style" solutions if politicians do not act, an MP has warned.

Former Labour shadow minister Chuka Umunna blamed the widening "cracks in our communities" on a lack of action since race riots 15 years ago.

The Streatham MP also criticised the immigration debate for focusing "almost exclusively on numbers, with too little attention paid to how we integrate people once they settle here".//

Sorry. I read as far as 'Chuka Umunna' then lost interest.
Stating the obvious. I was in Bradford during the riots there.
15 years ago? Where has he been?

The ills go much further back. Has he forgotten Brixton, Toxteth, Chapeltown, etc, etc.

He has not even grasped the obvious. The issues of culture and integration have worsened over decades..
How about Notting Hill, 1958?
Yep, Jackdaw, decades!
how about the anti-Jewish pogroms of the middle ages? Maybe because he's talking about things that have happened in his lifetime.
You see, this is the problem with so many of our politicians who try and score points but actually insult our intelligence. It's the same with the EU campaign comments.

Chukka is not saying anything new or likely to come up with an intelligent and coherent blueprint to make any difference whatsoever.

A bunch of headless chickens who just trip up over their giblets.
Jno > Maybe because he's talking about things that have happened in his lifetime

If so, that is no good whatsoever and gives a false impression.

Tripping over ones giblets, I mean.
//A bunch of headless chickens who just trip up over their giblets.//

Lol. Ohh I envy you coming up with that one ag.
//how about the anti-Jewish pogroms of the middle ages?//

How about the anti Jewish agenda being conducted even now?
//too little attention paid to how we integrate people once they settle here//

But it is not us, it is those that come here who wont integrate who are the problem and that is before you get to those that come here to wish us harm or declare jihad on us infidels.
well, how about it, Togo?
Ymb > But it is not us, it is those that come here who wont integrate who are the problem.

Yes, it's no good folk saying the onus is solely on us to welcome these people. Language is one immediate barrier sometimes, encouraging others to stay indoors by giving them free satellite tv packages is another!

//well, how about it, Togo?//

If the middle ages and the attitudes towards Jewish people are of such concern you must be very worried about the attitudes displayed by some "officials" towards the same group of people. Errrr in our own lifetime.

But it takes both sides to become integrated. Much has been said on here about immigrants "not mixing", especially the new bete noire, the Muslims, but how about all of us making a greater effort ?
I just don't see "Hug a Muslim" working too well tbh.
I had my hair cut by a Muslim this morning and had a really nice chat at the same time ! ( by the way, he is voting LEAVE ! )
Mikey > the new bete noire, the Muslims, but how about all of us making a greater effort ?

Be honest, the hardest thing for a helluva lot of strangers is to say 'hello' on passing no matter what religion. Integration is many many levels above the most basic greeting.
