Why do the Russians want to destroy us? Is the UK really that much of a threat to them? Is it because they can?

Indeed there isn't - not when we could ally more closely with the U.S. - as President Trump has already agreed he would be happy with.

Our defence budget is an obscenity, when compared with our health and education budgets.

What's the point of using money from two areas of benefit to defend a country which diminishes by the loss of that money?

Not ‘by accident’ as in ‘oops Donald day on the button’ but they can escalate unpredictably. Just look at Syria.
And there was a conflict a century ago started by an assassination in a country far away of which most people here knew nothing ...
