'Speciesism' is the idea that being human is a good enough reason for human animals to have greater moral rights than non-human animals. ...a prejudice or bias in favour of the interests of members of one's own species and against those of members of other species.

Having read with interest the post on killing 'rescue' dogs... and other non human animals I presume? Would you watch this documentary?

nailit---there is a Vegan Society. It began in the early 1940s.
Im well aware of that andres….and??
The point is that MAN has been eating animals for thousands of years but there is no successful civilisations that have been entirely vegan (and much less vegetarian).
All cultures, at all times, have been meat eaters.

Show me one which hasn't.

I grow a little of my own veg and was taking a supplement until blood tests from my gp told me I didn't need them. I will supplement when needed. As with omegas. I prefer to eat the algae rather than the fish do it for me then eat the fish lol

Once again, just for you nailit

@ pixie. Do they? I choose not to pay anyone to slaughter a sentient being in my name. I choose not to eat any non human animal and any of it's by products. That includes beetle colouring, fish bladders used in the purification of alcohol...

I'm sorry you feel the need to belittle me for my choices, but thats ok... you are nothing to me xx

nailit--I was merely replying to your post @19.07.
Well... mutually, obviously... but the hypocrisy of blaming others that animals die because we eat, while doing the same yourself... is a little bizarre.
Divegirl,
no need to give a link....been there! Tried the vegan lifestyle. Its cobblers. Humans eat animals. Like other animals eat animals. Get over it.
I don't like it either. But humans eat other life forms.
And like I said earlier...no such thing as a guilt free lunch. Your breakfast cost the life of hundreds of lives that all got mulched in a combine harvestor.
//nailit--I was merely replying to your post @19.07. //
OK andres thank you
Question Author
As said before nailit... crack on

Change is coming, whether you like it or not :)

Divegirl,
Are you ok with all the insects, birds, hedgehogs, rabbits, shrews, mice, worms, spiders, hairs, et al that get all mangled up in combine harvesters so that you can have your 'guilt free' breakfast?
Never mind 'crack on'
Just answer the bloody question.

The question being?
Question Author
Oh. well I don't eat cereal.

Yes it makes me sad at the thought of anything dying as a by product of the global food industry, but that's why I'm vegan. No farm animal is killed in my name. No cow, pig, sheep or chicken. I do not consume insects that are farmed for their colouring or fish for their bladders
etc... but I said all this already x
^She finds it difficult to answer questions. A veritable saint. At least from her point of view.
Question Author
I answered the question Naomi, so not sure what your comment is getting at.

Not sure what I have done to deserve your 'saint' comment. I just chose to live as cruelty free as possible... in what I eat, wear and use. Why is that so hard to understand.

You do not. It makes me sad that any intelligent person chooses slaughter over a plant based diet or a vegan lifestyle.

Peace
So would you have Lisa starve because insects and small animals get caught up in a combine harvester ? Hardly her fault is it and she has to eat something! I personally do not go along with all this carp about plants feeling pain and if they do (as some will no doubt love to point out), it is NOTHING compared to the pain sentient creatures feel at the terrible torture meted out to them in farms and abattoirs all over the country. Do you lot pick on her because you feel guilty ???
She is bring argued rather than picked on, and because she has chosen and preaches a moral code that goes against the natural working of nature, and also effectively considers those who haven't adopted it wrong to the point of sadness, not because anyone feels guilty for having a moral code in tune with how nature works. That said, that sort of criticism of folk regarding how they live is likely to result in robust responses.

If you have issues with alleged "terrible torture meted out to them in farms and abattoirs" then your best option is probably to write to your MP about ensuring compassionate farming and slaughter to ensure no fear nor distress to food animals. Maybe run an awareness group and campaign.
Yes, Lisa is a sitting duck through the very nature of this discussion and never going to win on here.

OG probably has it about right,to channel energies in other perhaps more potentially successful areas!

How do you know I don't already do that OG ??? Because I do! I support charities that campaign tirelessly for farm animals and have done so for many years and yes I have written to my MP (whoever it was at the time) on several occasions pointing out the plight of said animals. I don't just cone on here and spout you know! Unlike some. Oh and it is NOT 'alleged' OG, something else you know little or nothing about.
And ag, you as well know nothing about how I 'channel my energies' !

I've had my say on here and as Lisa would say - 'peace' ..
