I genuinely don't know any gender neutral folk, so can't answer. I know a cross dresser, who's one of the sweetest people I know, but that's the limit of my knowledge.

On the andy murray thread, I was being slightly facetious towards Andy Hughes.


However, i'll inform you on how I feel about such a topic.

I think the idea of blue for boy and pink for girls is warped. Boys and girls can like whatever colour they want and ultimately play with whatever toys they want. On a barbie doll, it doesn't say "Not for boys" neither does it say "For Girls". Therefor if a young boy wanted to buy a barbie doll and play with it for whatever reason, they can. The colour of the box, or the gender of the doll isn't stopping them from doing that.

They still identify as the sex they are (IE, Male or Female). The whole concept of non gender specific is more a social concept and idology rather than a personal one.

It basically means, just because that is a dress doesn't mean it's for girls, just because that blanket is blue doesn't mean I can't wrap my baby girl in it.

It's trying to break social stigmas associated to gender which I fully support.

As i said, non gender specific doesn't apply to people, it's a social construct on items and gender norms.

For example, a non gender specific person wouldn't bat an eye lid at a stay at home dad, or a woman in a suit, or a man in a dress.

They still identify as their sex, IE, male or female.

Is where someone does not have a fixed gender.

Is where someone doesn't conform to gender norms.

Is a term to apply to a person who believes there are only two genders and that every person is one of those two. SparkelyKid, would be someone who believes in Gender Binary.

Nope, they're the only two in your world. No-one who hasn't experienced being trans or gender fluid has any knowledge of how it must feel (myself included). Its easy to be dismissive of those different to ourselves, and we all know that some people are idiots, using gender fluidity to get attention, but let's refrain from calling them abnormal or freaks.

Most mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. I have no idea whether such things as gender choice have similar roots, but nobody here would call someone suffering from depression or anxiety attacks a freak or abnormal (I hope), so why folk with different gender requirements?

Well Dougie, if experts aren't completely certain of the causes, how can we be? My conclusion remains the same, IF it is a form of mental illness, would you not offer the same courtesy to a "victim" that you would to someone with depression?

I don't know the answer which is why I asked the question. Like so many things in life acceptance of a given condition depends on lots of things, not least an incessant campaign to convince the masses that what they previously thought was a bit odd is now completely normal.
