Every time it comes out we have people saying it should be scrapped,
(My self included)
But we can moan about it again and again,
Like saying that the House of Lords should be abolished,
But we are kidding ourselves if we thought we can do anything.
Honours should be bestowed more on those that do amazing work for other people and less on sports persons and entertainers unless it’s a life time achievement for the latter
Yes. Risking life and limb should get an honour also saving lives.
Can't figure out why business people and politicians get them.
Anyway, I want one, for paying my taxes, too much for too long. I'll settle for a knighthood.
We might be kidding ourselves that we can do anything, but generations to come will do something eventually to address the British Empire embarrassment.
The more I think about it the stronger I feel in opposition to people being honoured in this day and age as a Member or under Order of the British Empire.
The British empire was established through conquest and war. Great nations were repressed and peoples dispersed and divided to satisfy the greed of the British at the time. Nothing to be proud of, lots to answer for.
I sometimes wonder what Africa would be like today in European empire builders had never been there. If it had been left as a huge human/animal game reserve. Better or worse?
I think being honoured for charity work or services to better people life’s or society is a welcome thing.
However becoming a “Sir” because you were the Queens private PA Or reached a certain rank in the army simply pollutes it.
Always makes me laugh when I see the royals giving each other titles.
Reminds me of North Korea where the “Wonderfull dear leader” is giving honours ones a year to appease his ego.
