It seems some people have been able to save during lockdown, some enough to pay off debts. Have you found yourself with extra cash - and if so, what plans do you have for it?
I'll be a millionaire if this goes on much longer. The main thing we're saving money on is travel, but I don't know when that will resume or whether we'll be able to take advantage if it does. I suppose the worst-case scenario is that we die wealthy and jno jnr pays off his mortgage
I’ve saved a bit from my wages, though Amazon is too tempting at the moment. Because my daughter couldn’t go back to uni for the last term I’ve saved about £3500, so that’s a bonus. Mind you, I have to start paying £625 a month for her rent from the end of this month, so the euphoria is short lived. I’ll save what I can and put it towards a lovely holiday next year.
The only thing I haven't been able to do during lockdown is attend horseracing meetings. Therefore, while I have saved on the expenses of getting there, entry fee, refreshments, etc, I may have actually won more than the outlay. In which case, I have actually lost money :-(
I spend most of my money on dog show related activities, entries, travel, accommodation, seminars, not to mention keeping the dogs - but it has made me realise how much I have been spending and living beyond my means as I am no better off just not in so much debt each month!
I’m not sure how I’m saving as I’m still spending money on food , maybe a bit more as my son in law goes twice a week, I only ever went out on Tuesday nights and spent roughly £30 as me and friends went for an Italian we used to go out with another couple each Saturday afternoon but he’s had major surgery for cancer and we’d spend as a couple about £40 but I’m still seeing a healthy bank account?
I think my biggest saving is on diesel. I used to fill up £60/70 a time once a fortnight, sometimes once a week - I am still on the tankful I put in the day before lockdown began, still have a quarter left.
I haven’t bought any clothes for months so that’s a bit of a saving. No haircuts, so another bit. I haven’t found more money in my purse though. I think we’re drinking more, and my taste has become more expensive. Posher gin and tonic.
I've saved money on cab fares to medical appointments as they have mostly been deferred, even got discharged from one hospital department via the phone last week.
My biggest saving is on school bus fares (£60 a week) but I also started work just before this all kicked off so have more money from that. I’m not necessarily saving anything as I’ve had to a lot of shopping at the local shop, we’re having more takeaways and treats and I’ve been buying ‘stuff’ without giving it too much thought.
My only everyday savings have been petrol and possibly high street clothes shopping. We will have saved several thousand (yes I am telling the truth and not boasting either) on missing 2 standard holidays this year. Most will go on holidays for next year.
Yes. Saving a fortune. Rarely use the car.Have no motgages. Don't shop as much. Had about three bottles of wine since January 6th. Another £50 win this month from Ernie. I don't eat so much and feel better for it. Don't need new clothes. I can get back into those I wore some years back. :-)We don't need new cars yet. Admiral, bless em have reduced the premiums by £50. Question is where do we stash the loot. We are running out of banks and building societies to squirrel it away.
I suppose we could buy a third house for our youngest son and enjoy a bumper holiday with the boys and grandchildren as and when we are allowed.
