They had been drinking all day and were on a rampage and were randomly attacking anyone who got in there way. Yes, they used racist language, but they did not single out their victim because of his colour. They got him because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In the second, the victim was explicitly chosen because of his colour.
Does that help you make the distinction?
Are any of you black?
Have any of you actually seen racism up close?
Why does your blood only ever seem to boil when it's a white person attacked?
I'm going to put this simply - we don't live in a society where everyone is treated equally...this is why hate crimes are viewed as socially devisive.
I'm over the moon that Anthony Walker's killers got life. I hope they each have to share a cell with a psycho 23 stone African.
The thing that makes my blood boil is when people start complaining that white people are so hard done by.
Frankly - you're not. I've seen it up close and personal people - as a black man living in a white society - you are not hard done by, by any measure.
All i am saying is that everybody be treated equally. Really what is wrong with that???? If three white English men had got drunk, beaten some white Scots and then found a none white not English looking person killed him and then boasted about killing a person who did not look English enough then they would and should be called racist!!!. And i only said coloured so as not to single out any particular group of people. Also sp1814 i did say i would hang them all ( white and black ) Why is commiting a racist killing ok if you kill somebody and then set about thumping a few people of a similar race to yourself. Surely that's worse!!!!
We're looking at a difference between motive and reaction. If you were to deliberately kill someone as revenge for something, and then exclaim "and the black b***ard deserved it" it does not mean that it was an attack that was based on racism, only that you harbour racist attitudes. Your attack was based on revenge. This is why the judge made his decision, correctly in my opinion.
Arsenal
Nope. I've had a pretty good life. I did well at school, got a good job, met a great partner...nothing much to complain about.
The point I was trying to make is that if you are white you have less understanding of the effects of racism, because there's less chance of you being directly affected it.
In the same way, as a man, I don't really know what it feels like to have been subjected to sexism.
Latecomer - if you were white (and I don't presume to know whether you are), and I saw a picture of you, and I said you were Chinese, what would that say about me?
By describing three Asian lads as black is just wrong, surely you can see that???
