Why do we need reminding of a year of misery? Not interested.

//All the real news has gone from British TV// Absolutely spot-on, Aunt Polly. Yesterday was a binge-fest of the “news” that has been presented over the past year. The only things that need to be on the daily news are: How many people have contracted the virus? How many have been hospitalised as a result? How many have died as a result? Add to that news of the...

For me it was a day to reflect on what this virus has done , on a personal level it was a day to remember our friend Michael ( 53) who lost his life to it in November
i know that for many its been a terrible time, but one that needs some recognition for those lives lost.
There’s talk of a memorial for all who succumbed to it Emmie
going to be a big one if so Bobbi... and where would it go, as the victims of this horrid virus are spread right around UK>
I'm not interested either, Dave. Load of sentimental nonsense.
It’ll likely be in the form of a tablet , I can’t see names being on it to be honest ,and definitely not a statue for obvious reasons
no of course, we are not done with this yet, even with all the vaccinations.
I’m the same Dave, no need for it at all. Don’t we all remember people we’ve lost in our own personal ways?
I don’t think a memorial is a good idea either, who wants reminding of it, not me.
It was said at last nights briefing Vagus
Yes I know bobbi, I’m just expressing my views.
Since we’re told that this virus isn’t going away, the idea of a monument is monumentally ridiculous. What will it commemorate? Those who have died - and those who are yet to die of Coronavirus?
Absolutely :0)
As Pasta once said about me , kindly I know
“ you wear your heart on your sleeve “:she’s right n all, haha
nothing wrong with that Bobbi
"What will it commemorate? Those who have died - and those who are yet to die of Coronavirus?"

Well, yes. That's what memorials are for.
People are born, they die and that is tragic but happens, so why not grieve on a limited and personal level without this visual outflow of emotion as seems to be so prevalent on AB.
If someone close to me died of Covid, then there may wellbe ashore period of reflection, but for people that I have never met, that reflective period is transitory.
Sorry.......just get on with it.
Nonsense. Memorials commemorate past events and the people involved in them. That which is yet to occur cannot be 'commemorated'.
^That to Jim.
The other significant day of remembrance has never been confined to a single event, or to something that is wholly in the past. Why should this one be?
Is there a memorial anywhere for all those who died of the Spanish flu in the UK? I don't believe we've reached that number yet.
we do Remembrance Sunday. where many many died, memorials galore to the Glorious Dead, as the Cenotaph says.
