I found that a name of the wicked rots from God’s memory, but the good name of the obedient, God remembers, either to preserve them through Armageddon if they are living then or resurrect them to life on earth.
Eccl 7:1

Studying scriptures = a wasted life.
Vulcan, no, I disagree. They have been and still are a tremendous comfort to me, as well as giving me a greater understanding of the world and its problems.
I meant, really, theland. You aren't daft- you aren't going to just believe something because it is written down. Why do you choose to believe it?
Theland, they are a tremendous comfort to you because you choose to believe them but that's what wishful thinking is. this is how it's described in wikipedia, in itself not a great source of information but in this case, quite an apt description.
" Wishful thinking is the formation of beliefs based on what might be pleasing to imagine, rather than on evidence, rationality, or reality. It is a product of resolving conflicts between belief and desire"
goodlife you have not addressed my remark which was that Eccl 7:1 does not mention one has to be obedient to God.

Neither have you addressed my question to you that asked if you really obey a god that has caused so many disasters (according to the Scriptures)
Pixie, I choose to believe, because evidence leads me to conclude that it is true.
Also, experience of an overwhelming hope and comfort in my life.
I believe the Faries keep my garden safe, and when anything dies it's those damn Gnomes. This gives me great comfort and admonishes me from any responsibility for my plants.
You need Gnome Repellent Spray to keep the Fairies safe, and allow them to continue their gardening.
Athene came to me in a dream last night and told me Zeus is very angry at goodlife's preaching about a false God. Stand by for a thunderbolt.
I'll wear my helmet!
To answer the question - Yup. Best you can hope for after is to act as fertilser for a few plants i.e pushing up the daisy's
YMF - I disagree.
Far too much to put in a post or two, but as far as I am concerned, I consider the science investigating our origins, the universe, life from non living chemicals, the origin of information, particularly DNA in the cell, evolution, history and prophecy, and of course, my own experiences.
Theland, you regularly claim your opinions are far too much to post here. Everyone else seems to mange to convey their thoughts. Why not you?
Oh yes of course I can, but not comprehensively, and the incomplete picture invites ridicule etc.
Not that that bothers me, but its a shame if I can't manage to convey a complete argument that retains some interest.
You are entitled to disagree, but doesnt mean you are right though especially if you dont put forward any tangible evidence to back up your claims.
I think it’s very sad that Christians spend so much of their lives dwelling on the prospect of death. It’s no wonder they’re so miserable.
Ah yes. Tangible claims.
I don't believe the universe created itself.
I don't believe living material arose from non living matter.
How's that for starters?
This Christian is not miserable.
Dwelling on death?
No!
Life to be lived first!
I don't know Goodlife but I'm doing my very best every day to enjoy what there is and if there is more then, we'll see.

Meanwhile live and be kind.

You know at the moment you can believe what you like. But you won’t be able to say you didn’t know. The Bible was written for a purpose, if you want to make fun of it just as they did in the past.
One warning went on for 400 years! God’s time is nothing like your time, do you know what God’s time is? (2 Peter 3:8)

Auntypollygrey@ Obviously you don’t understand the Bible! Ecclesiastes 7:1 – it may not spell it out that you should obey God. But obviously the day of your death is better than the day you were born because by this time you have proved yourself. If you have been obedient and done all that is commanded you will have a good name with God. Nothing illustrates this better than Jesus. He made an outstanding name with Jehovah. When he died faithful he vindicated his Father’s sovereignty and provided the Ransom Sacrifice which now gives us the opportunity of life.
