Idealistic fools who believe that it is possible to deal with a narcissistic megalomaniac via the usual channels as he wages a ruthless vanity project in his quest for a former era and regime
If they want to be of use they can become sandbags
I offer this up only as a representation of *their* position. For those who don't want to read it, a very brief summary would be something like: "Russia is entirely at fault this time, but Western powers should reflect on their own roles in escalating conflicts."
Andy Hughes will no doubt enjoy an intriguing example of the "'So' rule" about two-thirds of the way in.
A very good question. Nobel Peace Prize to the first one to offer the definitive answer.
Sadly, no one is going to be influenced by them. Anyone remember Tienamen Square? I saw on T.V. all those students laughing and popping flowers down tank gun barrels. We all saw the result days later.
I am afraid I don’t trust the organisers of this one inch.
The only honest and meaningful protests are those directed at the aggressor.
This particular war is nothing whatever to do with NATO expansion but it seems largely one man’s desire to obliterate a democratic country and impose his will on it regardless of the human cost.
The rest is just noise and self pity
1917 - Trotsky just said - after talks failed - we just stop fighting. and then at the peace talks - famously he added - take as much land as you want all it means is that for the next war, Germany begins nearer.
that was the one where Lenin was asked - have the army voted for this and he answered: " The Russian army has voted with its feet".
They all think that when Kyiv falls the war will end.
Napoleon - ( where he invade den? answer 1812 - Russia) took Moscow and asked - where is the czar?
the czar never came
an he nart kom when the French burnt Moscow.
Trotsky of course wanted world revolution based on ideology and a very unrussian ideology at that.
Then in 1991 Yeltsin said to the Soviet republics:
“Take advantage much freedom as you want” because ironically then in the rush to leave the Soviet Union Russia was first in line.
Hard to believe now
The other thing, perhaps less relevant is that henry VIII wanted his daughter ( Margaret I think) to marry the Scots King. He wanna less. So henry invaded Scotland. This was called the rough wooing.
I don’t trust the organisers either, ich. They’re like of a bunch of stupidly idealistic students who’ve never grown up and are never likely to. Their language says it all for me.
