Though William was stationed there for a few weeks as a search and rescue helicopter pilot, the only other Royal to have set foot on it's streets was the Duke of Edinburgh way back in 1957.

Davebro, they have to bid to become a city. Perhaps those in Shropshire are proud of their 'non-city' status;

Gingerbee Milton Keynes is more than sprawl with little charm. It has lots of green areas with lakes and hundreds of trees, a system of cycle ways and walks. Whenever I have been, which I admit hasn't been for a while, I've found it to be clean and well looked after and virtually littter free and every spring thousands of daffodils ans crocus appear in the grass verges. There are lots of sports/leisure venues too. I can think of far worse places to live although it does seem to be 'fashionable' to knock it.
Most of the people of Ipswich were behind bidding for city status (for the umpteenth time), as were all of its business and commerce groups. However plan was dropped when the local MP refused to give it his backing.
So Suffolk still has no cities, despite Essex (to the south of us) having three, Cambridgeshire (to the west) also having three and Norfolk (to the north) having one. We're feeling left out!
