I don't know the answer to the question - it's something I've often pondered - but I think everyone wants the country to be better for all. Lefties don't have a monopoly on social consciousness - even though they think they do.

to specify… i am very grateful to come from a culture with such a strong literary tradition… i know my writing style is a bit lazy but i read as much as i can and i take a great deal of pleasure in english/british literature theatre film and music… we are huge contributors to the arts. On a similar level i hugely admire the bbc for all the justifiable criticism of it and its funding… i think on balance it is an extremely valuable institution.

obviously my loved ones all live here and most of them are English/British… i am immensely grateful for them. I also think these islands have a long and interesting history and does a good job at making that history accessible. Our big national libraries are great!

i do not like how this country is governed and i do not like people who make weak excuses for how it is governed… i also dislike people who suck up to wealth and power and go out of their way to lick the boots of the privileged and ignore corruption or exploitation

- Siding with foreigners in any dispute
- Collaborating with foreigners to subjugate the state
- Cherry picking every news story to make us look bad
- Denigrating every effort in any sphere
- Making every success seem like some kind of good fortune
- Wishing failure on our sports teams
- Highlighting how wonderful it is in other countries
etc etc I could go on but I think you get what I mean.

dictionary defines “hate” as “intense dislike”…. we certainly get plenty of that from the right so i am not surprised that toratoratora is using his own definition

i have… usually along the lines of “i hate the modern uk” or “i despise what has happened to this country” but the sentiment is the same… hating britain as it is

I don't think that's the same at all, untitled. I don't like some of what has happened to this country but only because I think we're better than that. It's not a criticism of the country but of the people whose wonky ideas are jeopardising it.

I'm not political at all, but it often seems that those on here who are 'right' do a good job of expressing their hatred of anyone who they disagree with. So really no better, and not entitled to take the moral high ground.

i have an “intense dislike” of the tories… it’s not the same as hating my country!!

Depends on what you mean by Lefties. One can prioritise the citizens over fastest possible growth without needed to hate anything. Besides aren't you interpreting as hate simply what you disagree with ?
