Is it really an emergency or as some say a catastrophe? I don't think so, I think it's been blown out of all proportion by people who have another agenda and using the environmentalists as useful idiots. The destruction of capitalism is what they really want.

You will own nothing and be happy
Sea temperatures to the West of the British Isles 4-5C warmer than normal, parts of the North Sea 6C warmer than normal.
Temperatures in Iran at 1,200m above sea level 48 and 49C.
Record breaking heatwave in Mexico and Texas.
New York and Washington suffering choking air pollution because of Canadian forest fires.
Antarctic sea ice at its lowest extent ever at this time of year.
All is not well
Please bear in mind that 'lowest extent ever' is only the blink of an eye in the lifetime of the planet.

We're not half as clever as we like to think we are but every bit as gullible as 'they' imagine us to be.
Global warming? They should come up to Aberdeen today. Its the 2nd of July and i am thinking about putting my electric blanket on.
^@14.52. Somebody else that doesn't know the difference between climate and weather.
In 1663 the Summer was pretty bad. August was 'viciously cold, wintry weather'. Parliament, in fact, held a fast against it in order to try anything to alter it some way. However, they failed and on August 28th there was an extremely severe frost which decimated harvests.
(Part of my research for a novel I'm planning).

I don't believe in wasting resources. I think humanity and our modern lifestyle is very wasteful. I think we should be careful not to leave lights on when unnecessary, etc.. I agree that the climate is changing. BUT it has always changed. In my lifetime there has been a cricket match snowed off in June (at Queensbury, W. Riding).

Yes, I think that it has been blown out of all proportion and we are foolish to impoverish ourselves and cause suffering here when huge countries such as India and especially China are producing vast quantities of pollutants.
@15.05.So why is everyone so worried about it.We have had long periods of hot weather in the past,we have had long periods of cold weather in the past.Basically its a cyclical thing. The only problem now is we have all these "global warming","global climate change"weirdoes predicting the end of the world shortly.Away with you.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the biggest threat to this planet is not climate change but over - population.
Spot on Grumpygrandad.
the lethal heatwaves in mexico and parts of the USA are a nasty warning of a future that may be avoidable... some areas are experiencing wet-bulb temperatures of 35 degrees which are not actually survivable by human beings for more than a few hours even in shade and with plenty of water

if we keep allowing man-made greenhouse gases to accumulate then this will get worse and eventually it will make large parts of the planet uninhabitable for human beings. the consequences of that are that hundreds of millions will die and the rest will flee to parts of the planet that are habitable in numbers that are simply too big to stop.

catastrophe is not too strong a word.
Getting all hysterical about it seems to be what 'they' want 'us' to be doing.
The answer the OP, I have no bloody idea, but rest assured there’s loads of people on AB who think they do know.

Untitled at 9.23pm being a case in point.
your dislike of me personally is irrelevant deskdiary
Man-made climate change is the invention of people who walk around with their heads in the clouds looking for Utopia whilst singing "Imagine".

The "experts" have their own agenda for self-promotion and financial gain and are doing this by conditioning and brainwashing you lovely people. The BBC even have a Climate Change Correspondent now to push this nonsense even further.

I can be your Climate Change Correspondent by telling you that climate change is natural. It's not man made.
No.
Emergency or not, it's arrogant to think we can control nature. Unless we are willing to abandon the luxury of modern life altogether, we may as well forget it. This is being force fed to us to the extent that I've had children asking me when they're going to die and that is, frankly, disgraceful. I think a lot of people are making a lot of money out of this hysteria.
the luxuries of modern life are not sustainable and will not last forever... it is a choice between scaling down in a sensible and managed way or just waiting for massive collapse all at once

at the moment we're doing the second one
// Emergency or not, it's arrogant to think we can control nature. //

We ae uniquely placed to be able to influence it, in a way that no other creature on Earth can. In particular, we have the benefit of being able to plan, to predict, to measure, and so on.

It is true that many forces of nature are beyond our power to control. But our influence on the Climate is measurable. It is predictable. And we can plan to prevent, or at least significantly reduce, our contribution to its change.
The only catastrophe here is the lack of reason from those who should know better; politicians, teachers and some 'scientists'. Terrifying children results in producing more Greta Thunbergs, in a parallel universe where Greenthink rules and common sense counts for nothing.
Well the Earth had its hottest day on record on 3 July, only for that to be beaten on 4 July
